PC Woodcock has the distinction of being the only member of the Llanelly Police Force to gain the DCM. As a Territorial he was called up in 1914, and proceeded to France in the following year. After seeing much fighting on the Western front he proceeded to Palestine in January, 1916. Joining as a Private he was promoted Sergeant, and was twice mentioned in despatches. When demobilized, he was acting Sergt-Major. He belonged to the Swansea Howitzers, RFA and his home is at 7, White street, Swansea. At present he is stationed at Llanelly Docks.

DCM CITATION

725274 Sjt. D.T. Woodcock. C/265th Bde. R.F.A., T.F. (Swansea) (LG 11 Mar 1920). (PALESTINE)

Throughout the war he has shown cool courage, ability and initiative. On 18th September 1918, at Abu Felah, when the battalion serjeant major was wounded, he took over his duties, and during the subsequent days it was largely through his untiring energy that the battery was able to answer every call made upon it by the infantry.
