Gunner Howel Harris, son of Mr and Mrs Edward Harris, has died in France of Wounds. He had been badly injured, sustaining a shattered shoulder caused by a piece of shrapnel. He was visited by his parents who were with him at the time of his death. He was 26 years of age. CDL, 6 Oct 1917

A family member kindly provided the following: The family story is that he was injured at Ypres and ended up at the hospital at Etaples. His parents went out to visit him in hospital in France and while returning to the boat a despatch rider caught up with them to inform them he had died from his injuries.
