Military Service

The news has just been received by his family... of the death of Sergt William John Morgan, RASC, MT at the age of 24.

Deceased joined the Territorial RFA when he was 17 and just before war broke out. At the outbreak of hostilities he continued serving in the Royal Field Artillery, and in 1916 was drafted to France, where he served throughout the war. During the campaign he was twice admitted to hospital for being gassed and second for a wound in the foot.

After the signing of the Armistice he was sent to Germany in the Army of occupation, and was not demobilised till February 1919. He the returned home, practically his first appearance in Swansea for six years and worked eleven months on the docks, but rejoined at the end of that period in the Motor Transport (RSC), commencing at the rank of corporal and finishing as sergeant. In December last he was sent to India, where he remained to his death, and journeyed to the North-Western Frontier in an expedition against the Afghans, but whilst there he was taken sick and taken back to hospital. On Tuesday morning his parents received an official cable, stating that their son had died on June 27th, ten weeks and two days back. The delay has caused his relatives great and needless suspense.
